ON Semiconductor makes record-breaking acquisition of AI chip firm Synaptics

Through this integration, ON Semiconductor will expand its business from AI data centres to the intelligent edge, covering high-growth sectors such as autonomous driving, robotics and industrial automation.

Samsung and SK Hynix Plan Massive Investment in South Korea’s Honam Region

Recent reports indicate that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix intend to establish large-scale semiconductor projects in South Korea’s Honam region (including Gwangju and South Jeolla Province), with planned investments totalling several hundred trillion won (approximately 1.3 trillion to 2.2 trillion yuan). This will represent the largest-ever high-tech industrial investment in the Honam region.

The projects will cover the entire semiconductor manufacturing process, from wafer fabrication (front-end) to advanced packaging and testing (back-end), with the aim of establishing the Honam region as a core industrial base for next-generation semiconductors and addressing the bottleneck caused by production capacity saturation in the Seoul metropolitan area.
